Zooey or Amelie…You Decide!
I tweeted about this yesterday and got a ton of positive responses, but I am still very torn. My hair has been in the “growing out” phase for seriously a year and a half and lately I feel very un-cool and un-pretty. I bought different brushes, try different blow dryer methods and still…by lunch time when I look in the mirror at work (in the sad, sad fluorescent lighting) I just want a do-over. When I had short hair I always felt just a little more polished and pulled together, but I haven’t had long hair for 7 years (at least). In college my hair was all one length and down to the middle of my back–I don’t want that plain style again…but I need something. So here is the debate: Do I tough it out and try to get lovely Zooey hair or do I get it cut and get instant cuteness ala Amelie?
The big 3-0 is next month….so choose wisely!

I like Zooey’s much better. I’m partial to long hair because it takes so much less maintenance. But then again, I’m not a particularly ‘polished’ person and I don’t work in a formal environment so perhaps I’m not taking that enough into account.
While the long hair is lovely, I think you need to feel fabulous for all the events and birthdays you have coming up. Amelie gets my vote. You’ll look cute, polished and feel confident too. Then, you can work for long Zooey hair into the next year.
i love short hair, and i think it’s easy to take care of (i aim for a short hair cut where i can simply wash and go). that being said…we’re heading into winter – and i think it’s hard to keep short hair looking good after wearing a hat. and if you haven’t had it long for a while, i’d say go for zooey. you can always chop it when summer rolls around. maybe just get it trimmed into a style that’s easier to manage while it’s growing, to make sure it looks good for your birthday
You’ve always looked adorable in short hair. You have the cheeks for it.
While Zooey’s is gorg… I think Amelie is the best option, and yes — you do look great with short hair!
I find mini bangs to be unfortunate on most people- you could pull it off but Zooey’s hair is so much softer and touchable!
You are so funny!
I go through this thing every couple of years where I decide I would look really cute with short hair. I ignore for a moment the fact that my hair is very thick and prone to the whims of the weather, that my face is wider than it is long, and that I am a moron at effective blowdrying. I get the haircut. The novelty of it is cute for a week, and then reality sets in: I look like a 14-year-old at the absolute height of trendy-try-hard awkwardness. Or like someone’s mom. And I VOW never, ever, to try it again… this time, I have made my fiance promise me that the next time I start saying I want a short haircut, he needs to intervene and suggest that I go blonde – which also looks bad on me, but is more easily reversible.
So with all that said, I think it’s all about texture. Because you are blessed to have hair that does not appear to get BIGGER the shorter you cut it, I say you should run with that and get the Amelie cut. Do it for all your humidity-enslaven friends and colleagues who can’t pull it off!
Maybe more practical advice would be to skim through some pictures of yourself (Facebook profile pics over the ages?), and pay attention to which ones strike you as you at your most attractive – and base the foundation of your hair decision on that.

I did not like my most recent short cut (although not that short) so I am waiting for the day of Zooey hair and I would love for you to join me in this endeavor. Especially since winter is upon us – you could use the extra insulation under a hat.
How about just getting a trim and having your stylist take some of the “poof” and body out of it, to almost find a happy medium between both styles? It might make your style more manageable without going back to the bob (Can you tell Im anti-bob?)
That is too hard. Love both. Ok, I vote short, but w/ side swept bangs. Those Amelie bangs only work for .01% of the population, which could easily be you, but your current bang look would def be cute w/ the short bob.
Okay, now the decision is even harder! oy! But I must insert here that my hair is not poofy, like at all! I “could” rock with hair do, so the anti-bob comments were a little much.
Don’t know that I have advice for you, but I sure can sympathize. I’m in exactly the same spot and I’ve been so tempted lately to get it all cut off. But, I’m not going to. I’ve only seen one picture of you with longer hair, so I don’t really know what you look like with long hair. I do know that you’re adorable with short hair and I love the Amelie do – in fact I had the very short bangs for quite awhile because of her…But, I want you to tough this one with me – we can do this thing, Kendra!
My mom made a genius suggestion over the weekend…she said I should have my sister put in some extensions for a bit and see if I like the feel of the length since it has been so long since I’ve had it long. This way, I can have long beautiful Zooey hair, if only temporarily and then I can cut the Amelie do before the new year!
