Sexy Secretary?

Nov

Or in my case sexy middle manager?  (Doesn’t really have the same ring to it though.)  Glasses are the one accessory that my husband has actually called out as being “hot.” I am not sure I 100% get that, but I assumed that it ties back to the sexy secretary archetype.

My sad little glasses were beaten and broken, but because of the cost of glasses I was trying to make them last.  Then I was in a serious meeting at work recently and someone mentioned that my lense was about to fall out. ha!  Not really the best way to call attention, huh?  Then I was reading my friend’s fabulous site and saw her Ray-Ban post and new I had to act.  The frames I liked were filed into my noggin and I was set on making an eye dr. apt.  The thought had been looming for months after the embarrassing work scenario, but I really needed to act.  The following day I was at Target doing my weekly shop and I was just about to leave the store without spending over $50 (very hard to do in Target!) and I saw the optical center…believe it or not, I went right in with all my shopping bags and got an impulse eye exam.  I literally had to take my laundry soap into the eye exam room.  Have you ever?

I wanted to get the really big geeky chic glasses, but the lovely sales woman was very adamant that I get a more petite version and it was her birthday, so I let her win.  She said my face was to small for the bigger ones.  Do I have a small face?  Does that coincide with having a little head?  I hope not…I think my head is proportional to my body.

These are the ones that I purchased and sans Rx they were pretty affordable, but after all the bells and whistles they seriously cut into my “extra” holiday shopping cash, but my husband thinks I look “hot” in them so I am pretty pleased.

Mad Men Don Draper Suit

Men’s clothing is not normally my thing, but this morning I thought….”Hey, why not?”  I like Don, I like the way he dresses (well for work anyway…his casual apparel sometime bothers me), I should dedicate a day to him. I think my wedding was the only opportunity I will ever have to see my husband in a suit, so I must live vicariously through a fictional characters’ wardrobe.

I found the three key Don Draper items on Etsy.  While I was on the search for post inclusions, I also found the Manly Vintage blog–how stinkin’ cute is this?  Fella’s that like vintage and love Chicago…they get two thumbs up from this gal!  This blog appears to have reviewed some Chicago area thrift stores which may come in handy for me, too!  This city has all sorts of nuggets and I have been slowly finding them, but a little help never hurt.  Hooray!

Glass Action

I love glasses!  I love every shape and size.  If I had enough cabinet space I would have a different size/style for every beverage.  I like to use little tiny guys for my juice, medium size for my milk and water and obviously very large ones for my beer!  I think this stems from my grandma.  She had a similar pattern when we were growing up–she was very into appropriate “tools for the job”.  A couple of years back, I hosted a dinner party and I ended up bringing like 6 boxes of equipment and supplies from her house so I could feed 18 people in style–right down to the olive holders and salt pinchers!  My grandma has the holy grail of vintage paraphernalia–the real stuff from the 40′s and 50′s that has been dutifully cared for and properly stored.

Last night I found a fun sight that has similar vintage goods in amazing condition Retro Redheads.  What a cute name, right? I enjoyed all the linens used in the photographs.  The glasses below were definitely my favorite.  They look so sweet and inviting–I can just imagine drinking a nice tasty glass of homemade lemonade.

Now I know that vintage is not for everyone–but a lot of these styles are being re-made again.  What’s old is new!  For our wedding we registered at Fishs Eddy.  If you do not live in NYC, you probably have never heard of them.  This store is amazing!  The entire store is probably only a few hundred square feet and I could spend hours in there.  Sadly they are a little behind on the whole online sales model.  I had to send guests my registry in an excel file and they had to call the store while a sales person manually looked for the goods. (Thank you, Shanda!)  I guess that is cool in an old-school kind of way, but I am spoiled in the fact that I like to have the best of both worlds–style of years past and technology of years present!  But, you just can’t find another place that is rocking out stuff like Fishs Eddy!  The lily of the valley glasses below are the ones that I received for my bridal shower from my friend Jenny.  I posted a few other styles that I think would also be good fun Picture 3Picture 4(especially the Strip Tea.)
